Study Title: Personality & Interpersonal
You are invited to participate in
a study conducted by Jeffrey Goodman, Ph.D. (Professor of Psychology at the University
of Wisconsin-Eau Claire), Savanha Drew, and Brooke Benson (Undergraduate
Psychology students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire). This project is
approved by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Institutional Review Board
(see Contact Information at end of this page). We request your informed consent
to be a participant in the project described below.
Note: You must be a resident of
the United States, 18 years of age or older, to participate in this study.
The purpose of this research is
to study relationships between psychological personality and patterns of
interpersonal communication. Additional information about our study will be
discussed with you after your participation in the study.
What will you be asked to do?
If you decide to participate, you
be asked to respond to questions regarding certain aspects of your
communication patterns in interpersonal settings and about your personality
traits. You will also be asked about social policy attitudes and several
demographic questions (such as sex and race/ethnicity). It is estimated that
participation in this study will take approximately 30 minutes or less.
We believe that the risk
associated with participation in this study is minimal.
By participating in this study,
you will have contributed to scientific research and the advancement of our
understanding of psychological theory.
Your participation is voluntary. If you agree to participate, you
may choose not to answer any given questions, and you may withdraw your consent
and discontinue your participation at any time. We hope that participants will
feel comfortable responding to all questions, but full credit will be awarded
to all participants who complete the last question in the survey.
Incentive for Participation:
If you are a UW-Eau Claire
student, you will also earn two (2) credits of research participation through
the SONA system. Participants who are not UW-Eau Claire students can print off
the evidence of participation form at the end of the survey. Your instructor
may require or award extra credit for research participation.
Your responses are strictly
confidential. The data collected will be used for research purposes only and
will be reported in a group format (no individual data will be reported). Your identity
will in no way be associated with your responses or behavior. Only the
investigators and assigned research assistants will have access to your
responses. All responses will be downloaded to a computer file and kept for a
period of 5 years on a password-protected computer and will be deleted
